Two First Information Reports (FIRs) have been filed against Sanjay Kumar, an election analyst and professor at the Center for the Study of Developing Societies (CSDS), for allegedly making false statements regarding the elections. The accusations stem from his claims about voter statistics for two seats in the Maharashtra Assembly elections compared to the upcoming 2024 general elections.
Authorities reported that the FIRs were lodged on Wednesday in Nagpur district and Nashik. Kumar's post suggested a significant drop in voter numbers for the state assembly elections when compared to the general elections scheduled for 2024, despite both elections occurring within a six-month timeframe.
Subsequently, he deleted the post on Tuesday and issued an apology for sharing 'incorrect data' in a follow-up post. A senior police official indicated that the Tehsildar of Ramtek in Nagpur district filed a complaint regarding Kumar's claims about the discrepancy in voter numbers for the Hingna assembly constituency.
